We’ve been given false information at the Madras city council meeting

By Marie Easter

The information that was given to the Madras City Planning Commission by the developer, Momentasize, was untruthful. The Council approved a zone change to allow the construction of three highrise apartments each with three stories on Oak street across from the hospital.

We just found out that the Bend Oregon developer, Momentasize, gave untruthful reports at the Oct 14 presentation at the city council meeting. When the developer was presenting their plan to build these apartments they said it was only 9% more dense than Willow Creek apartments to the West. Not true!

It’s 49 percent more dense.

Willow Creek is only two stories high with 39 apartments, And the developer is proposing 72 Apartments, three stories high, Much more dense. That makes their traffic impact study not valid. 72 apartments could have 140 cars, and that would certainly have a traffic impact!

The developer said there were sidewalks in the area, and there are not, except around the hospital property, so pedestrians would be in city streets and traffic. The only place to walk safely off that property is the subdivision to the east.

I was at that meeting. They said this property was across the street from “Cowden Park.” That is fictitious, no such place there, Across the street is hospital property, not a park. A park would make these apartments more attractive, but it’s not there.

  1. Its time to reverse this travesty. The only way this could of been allowed to be considered was by changing the zoning and making false statements on its impact. This suggested project is not wanted by the community, not appropriate for the area, and does not take into consideration the impact on an established community or future congestion on the area. This should of never been rezoned for this purpose and I adamantly oppose this project moving forward. Our city council needs to make this right by reversing the rezoning of this property and stopping this project. City council….do better!

  2. It will take people going to Council meetings and telling them. No other way to communicate with them, except email. Addresses may be available at City Hall. The president is Mike Seibold, mseibold@madras.gov.
We have told at least one person on Council about the untrue findings by the builders.
